Remembering Pvt. Danny Chen (Oct 3, 2021)
Sunday, October 3, 2021 | 1pm to 3pm

Walking Tour: starts at 62 Mott Street
Commemoration: corner of 32 Elizabeth Street

Pvt. Danny Chen was a 19-year-old American soldier found dead in Afghanistan on October 3, 2011 after weeks of racial maltreatment and hazing by his superiors. The Chinatown community rallied for justice for Danny, calling for a fair and thorough investigation. Eight superiors were subsequently convicted in connection with Danny's death and removed from the Army.

On the 10th anniversary of their son's passing, Danny's parents encourages everyone to support Manhattan's Chinatown, struggling economically due to the Covid-19 pandemic, by joining a walking tour to some of Danny's favorite eateries/shops, and concluding with a commemoration ceremony at Danny Chen Way (Elizabeth/Canal Street).
